Faith In Humanity

I’ve always wanted to share this with someone for quite a few days. So, I thought why not write it and post somewhere and just share it with lots.

This post was written by Vaishakh Gulab.

I’m not a dude who is an expert in English literature, but if there’s a mistake in my grammar or I spell something wrong, please bear with me.

So, does the title give you any ideas what this post could be about? Well, it starts with me being an atheist. Woah, how could that relate, right? Glad I could bring the suspense within you, if I did. That’s right! I AM AN ATHEIST! Probably, lots of you are judging me right now, but I don’t know. What’s wrong in being an atheist? Did I kill someone? Did I bring hate around the world? Well, that’s what my parents think I would end up doing if I don’t start believing in God, of which I’m overstating of course. But, it doesn’t change the fact that they want me to be a theist. My parents, being of south Indian origin, are hardcore believers. They always force me to pray every morning after I have my bath. You know what I do? I just listen to them because that way I can avoid an argument involving the existence of God and there’s no harm in praying for a minute. A minute of chanting some mantras taught to you when you were a kid and the mind lurking somewhere else.

How does that still relate to faith in humanity? We will see soon, as we go to next step. Does God really exist? A question, many of us still have. Then again, we’re not going to discuss His existence. I know I would get a lot of hate for this but I think God is a concept. A concept put into people’s minds, years ago, that a being from above is watching over them so they don’t do bad and try to do good deeds and get credited for it (Sorry for my wrong choice of words). It’s just my opinion. I could be wrong too. But that’s also not what I wanted to say through this post.

Do you really have to believe in God to do a good deed? It must be upon us for what we do and not what we choose to believe in. Forget about atheists, Hindus, Muslims, Christians are all humans, and this word, ‘humans’ is what keeps us equal. If you think God is judging you from above? Good! Think that way and try to avoid doing something bad. You must be self-conscious about what you do. Judge yourself! Do an act of random kindness every day. I guarantee you that you will feel so happy about it. Help a blind man cross the road, drop a coin or provide food to someone who does not have it, let an elderly person have your seat in the bus, give a lift to someone on your vehicle, play with the lonely kid in your building, help your mother cook some time, give your dad a massage when he gets back home tired. Even if people don’t appreciate you when you are kind to them, keep doing it, because that is what will make you human. Restore the faith in humanity!
